Help me understand what happened. And yes, I'm an idiot. Anyway... I got a text message from my bank saying there was a fraudulent transaction and did I authorize it. I said no. The phone rang, I answered it. They asked me to verify a code. Stupid me! (First mistake.) They then rattled off other fraudulent charges. I said no, it's not me. They then made arrangements to replace my debit card and asked me to read off the last 8 digits (second mistake). They said they were invalidating my debit card and would send me a new one. Asked me to give them my PIN (3rd mistake — there were many). I got suspicious, they hung up. I immediately called my bank. They said I had attempted to Zelle a friend of mine for $1000. It didn't go through. My account is frozen at my request. I will probably need a new account number. How would that transaction benefit the scammer?
