Romance Scam Story

A reddit report about a romance scam that cost someone Amount not specified. Learn how to avoid falling victim.

A word of warning to those who shop online: don't assume that the merchant is legit, even with elaborately constructed websites. I fell for this scam because I needed to order an obscure DC gear motor that I had ordered from Amazon before, but now was unavailable. The part was available on a web-site that I had not used before. I was able to find the part, add it to the cart, charged appropriate tax and shipping and make a secure payment. However, the part was not received. I contacted their support, and they gave me a tracking number to a shipper that I have not heard of before. But this shipper is bogus (and the bogus shipper web-site is still online at this writing) . It shows very detailed shipping. However, the original merchant site is now gone. I need to research how to instrument my web browser to automatically omit any web-sites with reported suspicious activity. Suggestions appreciated.
