So basically, I'm back in my apartment now, but before this, I went outside to eat at a restaurant by myself for dinner. After I paid, I was walking back to my apartment building since it's only two minutes away, and then this woman comes up to me and asks me to help her. She said she was pregnant and needed money to purchase an Amtrak ticket and mentioned something about going to the ticket station if need be. She assured me that she actually did need help and it wasn't a scam, and proceeded to show me the ride where she's going to Delaware from my area. Since it was raining too, she didn't want to be caught up in it. She then proceeded to tell me that I absolutely don't have to pay anything that is higher than $30 because that's way too much. And so, I offered her $20 through Venmo so she can pay for her ride (the amount for the ride is like $33), to which she said if $28 was okay. Since I'm someone who doesn't know what to do in these situations and would rather want to help someone in need, I did end up paying her $28, and that was that. Could it be possible that this was a scam? I don't want to believe it since it felt like she was being genuine, but I would like someone to give an unfiltered opinion on this. To me, if it was a scam, that really makes me sad but again $28 is not that much to me, so I believe I could just use this as a learning experience to not do this again.
