TikTok Cookware Ad Adds Unwanted $7.99 Charge

A bbb report about a phishing scam that cost someone $7.99. Learn how to avoid falling victim.

I was on TikTok and came across an ad for a cookware set for $19.99, free shipping, 3-7 day delivery. I have never ordered anything off of TikTok prior. I went to their page, seemed legit. Placed an order, declined the additional '$7.99 shipping protection'. I used my Cash App which had $34 on it. I received an email about 10 minutes later that said my order was processed and that they charged me $27.99. I replied immediately and stated that I did not agree, want, or need the 'shipping protection' and that I wanted the $7.99 refunded. They replied with an obvious generic email that gave me tracking info but did not address my issue. I replied back immediately stating my issue was not addressed. Then silence. The following day I emailed again, no reply. I Googled the generic and only contact to be found, and the first thing that I discovered is that the email is known to be used by scammers/fraud, and typically used on TikTok. Obviously I've been scammed, lost $27.99 to learn never ever use TikTok to purchase anything ever again. I am now making scam reports everywhere I can including Cash App & TikTok. Unfortunately these reports are typically not seen until after a person has already been scammed.
