Spoofed SSA email about an appointment

A reddit report about a phishing scam that cost someone Amount not specified. Learn how to avoid falling victim.

I got an email from [email protected] saying I set up an appointment and provided a link to confirm, change, or cancel. The SSA website lists this as an official email, so it almost got me to click the link, tbh. But I called instead (phone number from their website) and they confirmed no appointment had been made. Looks like their email could possibly be compromised, or there's some email trick I'm unaware of that can spoof an official email. Or someone happened to fat-finger my email, but I doubt it.
