Scam Email From My Own Address

A reddit report about a phishing scam that cost someone Amount not specified. Learn how to avoid falling victim.

Hey there, first of all, English is not my first or second language. So I am sorry for any mistakes. I got an email some months ago, from my own email as it seems. They threatened me to send them money or else they would publish photos of me (AI generated). They said they were connected with my numbers and sent everything to my contacts. I usually just delete or block the email, but it was weird — it really was from my own email. Can someone please explain to me how is it even possible? Even the reference was notice to myself, which happens when you mail something to yourself.
