I was called by a number from New York I didnāt recognize so didnāt answer. Was immediately called again so I picked up the second time because my mother is in extended care and the staff sometimes calls on a personal phone. A woman with a foreign accent, therefore difficult for me to understand, said she was confirming the information on a Chase Bank Sapphire credit card that was used to purchase a firearm. She had to repeat the scenario because I was having a hard time understanding her, but I told her several times that I didnāt have that card and I have never purchased a firearm. She then read my name and DOB to me. I started panicking slightly at that point worried that someone had applied for a card in my name. I admitted that was correct but kept saying I didnāt have that card. She then read my address (incorrect by 1 number), and last 4 numbers of my credit card (correctly) and asked if this info was correct. At that point I became a little belligerent and told her I was not going to give her any of my personal data and that the information she had was incorrect. She told me, eventually, that she would give me her department and ID number but I said any information she had needed to be sent to me in writing. I put my phone down and took a deep breath, realizing finally that this was a scam. I then ended the call.
