Fell for a Robinhood Wallet Scam and Lost $3K

A reddit report about a phishing scam that cost someone $3.0. Learn how to avoid falling victim.

I got scammed out of my Robinhood investments (about $3K). This is the crayon version of what happened. I received an email with a login code for my account. I had not requested one, so I called the phone number. While I was talking to two guys, they did not ask me for personal information (no passwords, no birthdates or SSN#s, etc.). They sounded professional (and British). They asked me questions about how my account would have gotten compromised like they were reading from a script. At first, the second guy I spoke to said that they would open up an investigation. They said that Robinhood would cover me for 12 hours and to do that I had to do the following. They instructed me to download the Robinhood Wallet App from Apple’s App Store and create a wallet in it. They referred to it as a 3rd party app. (This is the part that breaks my heart.) They instructed me to sell my stocks and convert the funds to ether. They instructed me to transfer the ETH to the wallet on Robinhood Wallet. They sent me a 10-word password via text. They suggested I do $100 worth of ETH first to make sure that it worked and then the second transaction with the remaining amount. As soon as that transfer cleared, the ETH was gone out of my account. I did get a screenshot of the wallet that it was sent to, although I know there’s no way of tracking these things. Mistakes in hindsight: * I did not do a Google search for a phone #, which I do to sniff out scams * I did not scrutinize the sender’s email address or the phone number. In retrospect, they are obviously sketchy. * Probably some other s\*t that I’m not even thinking of. It’s hard for my brain to access the details right now (it happened today so I’m still kinda in shock), so ask me questions for more info. I know I effed up and let my guard down. I don’t need anyone to tell me that I made some dumb choices. I’m already out $3K that I worked hard to build up. Scammers get away with these things because people are too ashamed to speak up about it, and I’m not about that. So I’m here, asking the Reddit community for help. What I need from the Reddit community is how and to whom to report this. I have no hope of getting the money back, but if posting it here and reporting it can help in any small way, or prevent someone else from getting scammed, then I’m all about it. I also want to protect myself. The biggest question I have is, how did they pull it off? I didn’t give them any personal info. Is this Robinhood Wallet app even legit? I already went on the App Store and gave it a one star review for scam. I also disconnected my bank account from my Robinhood account to protect that. Is there anything that I should think of? I didn’t lose the family farm. It’s a small amount and I can rebuild. But first there are some practical steps I’d like to take. P.S. I have a busy few days at work, so if you don’t hear back from me ASAP, that’s why. P.P.S. Here are some screenshots. First two.
