Fake Zoom Update Download

A reddit report about a phishing scam that cost someone Amount not specified. Learn how to avoid falling victim.

Like many others, my mother has been trying to find a job and has been applying to several places. Enough places ghost you entirely that when you get some kind of response, you're not immediately looking out for those suspicious red flags. In this case, she gets a meeting email. The email itself doesn't quite look like the typical Zoom email, where it would show a "Join Meeting" button and have the Meeting ID and Passcode listed. It also specifies that if Zoom needs to be updated, to follow the instructions. She clicked on the link and it takes her to a page that looks like Zoom, where it shows it needs to be updated. She clicks on that, and it does download something, "ZoomUpdateInstaller.bat" Thankfully, our virus software stopped it and quarantined it before it could possibly take root. Checking deeper in the computer, it looks like it tried installing something called "Rodex". Has anyone heard of that one?
