Hello everyone,
Tried to go on a website of a nonprofit organization that seems to have been hacked: when clicking its address on a computer it shows this fake captcha thing, that asks you to paste a code into your Windows PowerShell/Terminal script.
The thing is, the PC version is super obvious as it does as I said ask you to run a script on your computer (like, who does that) — but I first tried to visit the website on my iPhone, which had a different version of the scam:
At first the website looks normal for like two seconds, and then all the letters turn into random symbols (as you can see in the picture) and there’s a message saying:
“Browser update recommendation — Your version of Safari may have known issues. Install the latest update for safe work.”
Uh-huh. “Safe” work.
Anyway, this seemed somewhat suspicious but I did click it. It looks like it didn’t do anything at all. I went on my PC, then I saw the more obvious malicious intent and informed the organization via email.
So now I’m just a tad worried, since pressing both the “later” button and the “install update” button before I realized — does any of you know what clicking this ‘install update’ on Safari is trying to do to my iPhone? And perhaps how I can check to see if something’s up?
Seems like nothing has been downloaded when going into the downloads section on Safari. Nor the downloads Files folder.
Any ideas?
