I recently applied for a good-looking position at A&F via a job posting on Glassdoor. A "Talent Acquisition Specialist William Chester" offered me that job today. The big red flag was that I hadn't been face to face with anyone prior to the offer. The BIGGER red flag was asking for this:
"To complete the process, immediately provide the following information via email at [email protected] to register you and prepare your offer letter:
- Full name
- Home address
- Phone number
- Email address"
Luckily my spidey senses went off at this point before I sent a reply.
The job was advertised on Glassdoor and looked totally legit. The fucker even sent me a huge list of interview questions to answer, which I spent ALL DAY on Tuesday doing.
All scams are shit, obviously, but preying on people who are desperately looking for work and who get so thrilled when they receive traction on an application that they're somewhat blind to the grift is fucking awful.
For future ref, he emailed from careers-abercrombie.com, and the initial job application receipt came from smartrecruiters.com — clicking that original link to 'Track my Application' reveals that it is still at Stage 1 of the process, not even yet Stage 2 'In Review'.
My question, in case anyone knows, is at what point the scammer got involved? Did they intercept the application somehow? Or is all of it, including SmartRecruiter and the original job posting, the scam?
