So today while I was on a work Zoom call my personal email started blowing up. I ignored the first few messages but then after 27 personal email notifications (my phone is only set to show personal notifications), I realized I had been the victim of a scam, likely credit card fraud - and I only knew because of everything you've posted here. THANK YOU!
Just as you all have described, the emails started right when the scammer used my credit card info at Best Buy (to buy a Dell computer? do better). Because I knew the real fraud email from my credit card company and the retailer was likely buried by the cascade of email list signups, I called my cc company directly - I didn't bother to sift through my email.
Canceling my card was easy enough. It'll be a bit inconvenient for a while, but no big deal. I then went to the Best Buy website, logged in to my account and canceled the order, which was scheduled for in-person pickup.
The cascade of email signups lasted for about 30 minutes, and took 30 minutes to move to spam or block. Annoying but so much better than not knowing why this was happening.
