I bought a used camera on eBay. The listing said refurbished and working, but it arrived with a broken timer. I messaged the seller through eBay, and he offered to repair it if I ship it back. Red flag: he called my telephone number to discuss repairing it and sent the return label to my email, not through eBay. The whole time I've been uneasy that he 1) went off eBay messages, 2) seemed too eager to help, and 3) the return slip went to my email, not through eBay. Since it's not officially a return, there's no record inside eBay that I sent it back (return is allowed until late March on this item). Now he's got the camera, so he could just keep the money AND the camera if he wanted, though I do have the email and tracking, but I'm not sure eBay would consider it since it's outside its ecosystem. This sounds like a scam, right? If the guy really is repairing the camera, I don't want to be paranoid, but if he's scamming me, can I do anything before the return deadline is up?
