Avera Health Imposter Job Scam

A bbb report about a phishing scam that cost someone $0.0. Learn how to avoid falling victim.

I received an email about a work from home job pretending to represent a real company called Avera Health. I was told to download the Signal Application for communication. I was sent to https://portal.averahealthjobs.org/ to fill out employment paperwork. I gave all of my information for their I9 form including SSN. I gave bank information for direct deposits. Then they wanted to send me an emailed check to mobile deposit to purchase equipment. I did not deposit the check and began making calls. I called the real Avera Health HR department who informed me of the scam.
