I've received numerous scam calls and 2-step authorization for my inactive Apple account today. So I knew from the start that someone was trying to get into my account.
About an hour later, got a call and my phone said the call was from California so I answered the phone.
Person was speaking perfect American English and asked legit questions like:
- Do you use a VPN sometimes?
- Did you try to login from Atlanta?
- Do you know anyone from Atlanta?
Everything seemed legit so I gave non-personal information. Then the person advised that I would receive an SMS with access to my case number.
The message was a URL that almost looked legit but was not (mycases-apple), that's when I knew right away that it was a scam. As soon as I mentioned the problem, they hung up.
Be careful guys and advise older family members and friends.
The perfect American English and great customer service voice and manner really threw me off.
