Amazon Fraud Charges Keep Happening to Us

A reddit report about a phishing scam that cost someone $300.0. Learn how to avoid falling victim.

I know there are a number of posts about suspected fraud charges from Amazon, but this is the third time it's happened in our household, and many responses just assume the victim was at fault. A couple years back it happened to my wife – she saw charges from "AMZ*Amazon Payments (US)" for over $300. We're in Canada and don't order from the US site at all. After speaking to Amazon, they only confirmed that the charge wasn't from our account. That's it – no investigation, no looking up the charge by the CC number to see which account it was tied to. We eventually got it resolved with our CC company. Yesterday morning, I woke up to TWO charges (each on a different CC) from AMZ*Amazon Payments (US) for around $650. I didn't even bother with Amazon this time and reported it to the CC company right away; their investigation is in progress. I'm just frustrated and a bit surprised at how easy it is for scammers to use Amazon for fraudulent charges. Despite being fairly diligent with my unique password management, 2FA, etc., I can only assume my information was still stolen somehow. But the fact that Amazon takes no action to investigate or simply look up a charge by CC number is ridiculous and apathetic.
