Remember that massive Verizon outage a few months ago? Yesterday, my mother received a phone call from āVerizonā customer service saying due to the outage, they are giving away a free iPhone or Samsung, since so many customers are leaving. When my mom said yes, he transferred her to someone else. The person said the āfreeā phone would require a $150 or $350 fee (couldnāt understand him with the accent). I told her to hang up right away. Thankfully, my mother didnāt give our account info or PIN. She did give her name and phone number. She usually knows better and can pick up on scams. Glad I was home to intercept.
