A man came across my TikTok over this past weekend and started by asking me if I had gone to school in his state (California) because I look familiar (I get told constantly by people that I am face to face with that I look just like someone they know).
I replied "No".
He asked if we could chat. We chatted for a short period of time and he asked if we could chat on Telegram. He didn't say anything about being in the military. He said he was having a little issue on his end adding my number to Telegram and gave me a username for me to add him.
He asked me a lot of questions; he wanted to "get to know me". He asked me what I do for a living and I told him. Then I asked him what he does, that's when he said he is "a soldier". He said he deployed in Jordan and will be done with deployment in 2 months.
He actually did try to video call me twice but I did not answer it, I was feeling a little uncomfortable that he isn't who he says he is. Then he audio called me and I answered it. I was talking (basically to myself), it said his microphone was on mute, he stayed on the call being silent until I finally hung up.
I texted him and told him I'm not familiar with Telegram really so not sure if I'm using it correctly and that his microphone was on mute.
His reply was "send a recent picture". It struck me odd because I had already sent him a recent picture from a couple weeks ago.
He sent a text with the word "ALAYE" with the laughing 🤣. I finally googled it and Google says it means Fellow scammer.
He has not responded to any of my texts; he did read the last text I sent that said that I am not a scammer.
Sooo.. if he is a scammer then why would he actually be trying to video call me? I would be able to see his face on the screen, so I'm confused.
