While walking to the train station from my office at the end of the day, a man pulled up next to me and waved me down. He was actually speaking loud enough for me to hear him through my AirPods, so I figured it must be important.
He had a thick accent, so I couldn't quite understand him. He wanted to shake my hand. I kindly declined. He then made a point that he had his kids in the car. Something wasn't right. He then said something else, like he wanted to show me something, and held out his hand, expecting me to stick my hand in the car to drop whatever was in his hand into mine. I took a step back and saw he had some jewelry.
I told him I wasn't interested and needed to catch my train, and took off.
My question is, what is the scam? Was he trying to abduct me? Was he trying to steal my ring or watch? Was he working with a partner and trying to distract me while I was talking to him so the partner could pickpocket me?
I was on the fringe of a very busy business district in the city with lots of people nearby during the early evening rush hour, not in a sketchy neighborhood, so my guard was a little down.
Any ideas? Obviously he was using the kids to let my guard down even further.
