Fake Debt Collector Benson and Kain

A reddit report about a job_scam scam that cost someone $1400.0. Learn how to avoid falling victim.

Has anyone ever heard of a debt collector called Benson and Kain? I was contacted by a "state processing unit" which now conveniently isn't answering my calls and given a number to Benson and Kain. They asked me to pay a debt of $1400 with court costs to a "payday loan" company which was unpaid 7 years ago. I honestly couldn't remember as I was definitely struggling financially at the time. But I said okay, I'd pay them what I could, which was $200, but they couldn't give me any more information as to whom I was paying. I definitely got scammed. I was being threatened someone was coming to my workplace, and I'm starting a new job so I was concerned. I haven't received any type of receipt. I'm not sure what I should do now.
