I purchased multiple Apple gift cards from Target recently, and upon opening them, the redemption code areas were already scratched/damaged and unreadable. The cards were activated correctly at checkout, but the codes were not usable from the moment I opened the packaging. After dealing with Apple, my credit card company, and Target, Target granted a "one time exception" and is issuing a refund. Question please: other than opening the card before leaving the store or sticking to online gift cards, is there anything that I can do to prevent this from happening in the future?
