Sent my passport scan and address to scammers

A reddit report about a impersonation scam that cost someone Amount not specified. Learn how to avoid falling victim.

A couple of days ago, I received a scam call. During the call, I showed my passport through my webcam and also shared my address. I did not provide any financial information or an SSN. I am an international student, so I do not have an SSN. I filed a police report. I also contacted my bank, but they said that without the physical passport, the scammer cannot do anything with my bank account. I tried contacting the three credit bureaus, but they said that without an SSN, they cannot place a credit freeze. One of them also mentioned that, since I do not have a credit card in the U.S., there is probably no credit file for them to freeze in the first place. How serious is this situation? How likely am I to become a victim of identity theft? The police officer told me not to worry too much because there is little the scammers can do with just an image of my passport, but I am sincerely freaked out.
