So I already know that this is a scam. Iāve heard all about it and have seen extremely similar ones. Essentially, I got two separate scam text messages today in regard to a parking ticket. They both started off by saying they were from my stateās DMV and that I have an unresolved traffic ticket on my record. Then they proceed to get into typical scareware stuff, like saying I have to resolve this payment urgently or else the state will take legal action against me and revoke my license and registration. Then of course, there is a link to make an immediate payment, which isnāt clickable at all since I didnāt respond to the texts.
Now the weird part that I want to ask about is that these two texts came the day after I got a REAL parking ticket. Itās the only parking ticket Iāve ever gotten so far, and itās very legit. Do these scammers have access to some public database that would contain information on recent parking tickets that they could somehow trace back to my phone number, or is this just some massive coincidence? Itās just strange that Iāve never received a parking ticket before yesterday, and Iāve never gotten texts from a scammer claiming to be the DMV. But the second I get a real parking ticket, I get the same DMV scam from two separate scammers in the same day.
