Scam Prevention Guide

A reddit report about a impersonation scam that cost someone Amount not specified. Learn how to avoid falling victim.

I posted the following question in this sub a few months ago: "I just got this call and I wouldn't think much of it except that I had a similar call a few months ago. Someone calls saying they saw my ad for cleaning on Tiktok. I don't even have Tiktok, much less have any ads running there. I got the sense it was supposedly a hiring ad, not a cleaning services ad. I think the first call was from my same area code but this one was from a Toronto code, which is close-ish but not my area. When I say it wasn't me, the caller is apologetic. Is this a potential scam or just coincidentally two wrong numbers?" I only got one response then, but tonight I got another text from someone and thought to Google my number with "cleaning service \[city name\]" and found the Tiktok profile that's causing it. They have my number in their bio. This must be a scam (their whole profile feels scammy) and I plan to report it to the non emergency police hotline on Monday, but I'm curious what the point of using my number would be! Is this a known scam?
