Looking for advice from people who have been through something similar and actually managed to recover funds.
What happened: I received a call from someone impersonating Wise fraud support. They convinced me to approve transactions to “reverse fraud.” I ended up approving multiple transactions (3DS), total loss ~€22k.
Transactions involved: card payments to AXS (tickets), Farfetch, Motiv, Cult Beauty – all UK merchants – and direct Wise transfers to scammer accounts.
What I’ve done so far: reported immediately to Wise, card frozen same day, filed official police report, contacted all merchants. Some merchants say they’re waiting for Wise to confirm how the fraud happened for a chargeback. Wise says transactions are “authorised” due to 3DS and is not pushing chargebacks strongly.
Current situation: stuck between bank and merchants. One merchant confirmed chargeback is ongoing but Wise communication is unclear. Wise is mainly doing “recall requests.”
Questions: Has anyone recovered money in a similar Wise / 3DS scam case? Did chargeback actually work for you? Any tips on pushing Wise or merchants more effectively? Anyone escalated to Ombudsman / regulators and succeeded?
