Headphones bought on Facebook Marketplace never arrived

A reddit report about a impersonation scam that cost someone $100.0. Learn how to avoid falling victim.

I purchased a pair of headphones off of Facebook Marketplace (that I know 100% do exist) from this girl who also very much exists, and lives about 4 counties over from me. The plan was for her to ship them ($100 + $15 for 2 day shipping) and obviously that never happened. At this point, she has sent me screenshots of her Cash App claiming that I 'took my money back' (it was the app itself using $105/$115 to pay for a credit she owed in the app), and an AI generated photo of a packing slip claiming that she shipped it but it must have been returned. The town she currently lives/works in has a population of around 3k people if that matters, so is it worth going to their police office and filing a report? This would be an hour and a half drive for me and it has been about 20 days since this whole ordeal began.
