Had a Facebook marketplace buyer for my TV. She asked if Zelle would work. Let her know I don’t have Zelle—Cash App or Apple Cash would work (ugh).
She showed up alone. Got it into the car. Said “280 right?” I said “$269.” She still sent $280.
When I explained that I thought that was odd, she said something about sending more because I brought it downstairs, helped her, and blah blah blah. She didn’t request the money back.
Told her to hold on and explained that I don’t like that because it could be a scam. Made her go get cash from the bank, which she was okay with.
She didn’t ask me to send back the Apple Cash initially, but asked if there could be something in writing saying I would send back the money if she returns with the cash. (Makes sense if she actually wasn’t scamming.)
She returned with the cash. I had (unfortunately) transferred the Apple Cash to my bank, and sent her back $280 from my account after receiving the cash.
I was super tired because it was in the morning and couldn’t think through it well until now, but I think I basically just gave her a free TV, assuming the charge gets fraud alerted and taken out of my account.
I do have a phone number, her supposed name, and I also got her license plate.
Is there anything I can/should do?
