Scam Prevention Guide - $10000.0 Lost

A bbb report about a impersonation scam that cost someone $10000.0. Learn how to avoid falling victim.

I was called them back and was told they were trying to collect a debt of $10,000 for my husband from back in 2017 (9 yrs ago). I asked who the creditor was and she said she didn't have that information but because of the amount she was guessing it was for something medical. I told her we didn't owe anyone $10,000 and that she needed to remove our number. I also said that I was pretty sure that the statute of limitations would have run out even if we ever did owe that amount to anyone. I'm sure I would have remembered a bill for $10,000 but found it really off that she couldn't even tell me who the creditor was, nor was there ever an account number given. I continued to get these calls numerous times a day (from a different number each time) and finally called again to tell them to quit calling. The man said he would note my comments and continue to pursue. The call back numbers were from various area codes, cities and states. I looked up their address and sent them a cease and desist certified letter but it was returned as insufficient address, unable to forward. I'm at a loss to make these people quit calling. All contact by. This cost me $10,000.
