I have been using Amazon for years, and I have always trusted the platform. However, last week, something highly concerning happened. Someone offered to exchange my event tickets, which are worth around $400. They told me they only had an Amazon balance, so they offered to buy items from my Amazon List worth around $500 as payment. I checked online to see if this was a known scam or if the buyer could just cancel the order. Amazon's policy states that once an item says 'Purchased,' the buyer has 30 minutes to cancel it; otherwise, it cannot be undone. To be completely safe, I waited at least 40 minutes. Trusting Amazon's system, I proceeded with the exchange. Apparently, when someone merely adds an item from a list to their cart, it shows up as 'PURCHASED' on the Amazon List interface. Later, when I contacted Amazon, their representatives could see the items were only 'RESERVED,' not actually purchased. But how could I possibly know that without contacting customer support? I spoke with Amazon about this, and they told me it wasn't their mistake. They said I shouldn't have trusted the buyer and essentially blamed me for it. They actually told me, 'We don't know how to explain it, but if it says purchased on your end, it might not be purchased.' What does that even mean? Your platform clearly displays the items as purchased when they are not, yet you are blaming me for the misunderstanding. I gave them an example: If Venmo shows that you received money, but you actually didn't, who would you hold accountable? Their response was, 'We are not Venmo, we are Amazon.' Does that mean Amazon should be trusted less? My mistake for trusting Amazon, I guess. I am sharing a screenshot of how it looks on my end. As everyone can see, it is filtered and clearly says 'Purchased.' I am not sure what is more shocking here: the fact that Amazon is blaming me for their misleading interface, or the fact that they aren't even trying to take action to fix it.
