Dishwasher Repair Deposit Scam: $400 Lost

A bbb report about a crypto scam that cost someone $180.0. Learn how to avoid falling victim.

I was seeking a Miele authorized dishwasher repair on Apr 1, 2026. I contacted several in GTA, and the A Team Appliance Repair was available the same day, so I agreed to a base fee service call/labor of $180.00. The technician who claimed to be Miele authorized advised shipping, parts $1105, Tax $167.00, and requested 50% deposit by e-transfer for the $1452.18. The receipt notes a different address from the business. They cited a new Miele dishwasher that starts at $3,500+, and since this dishwasher is not that old, it would be worth the investment. Fake technician cited the high cost of parts from Germany and the escalating gas price. I investigated the next day directly with Miele Customer Service. Parts that were quoted at $1105 are actually $44 + $66.00 CAD. The service call fee was $180.00; however, the service diagnostic was incorrect. When I attempted to cancel the order within a few business hours, I was advised that there would be no refund, and I was accountable for overseas shipping, etc. I had to wait 5 days for an overseas manager to contact me. $500 of the $900 deposit was refunded. However, I have lost $400. The actual expense with an authorized Miele dishwasher technician is a total of $478.93 ($319 flat-fee service, $37.90 trip charge, and $49.98 CAD for parts). As a public service announcement, please do not engage in business with The A Team Appliance Repair, which has been serving and scamming the GTA and surrounding areas since 2023-2024. Unfortunately, I did not see reports of fraudulent history until after I engaged with this website.
